Here’s a good reason to stock up on baking soda – apparently it does everything. Got a monster zit? Chlorine in your hair? An itchy bug bite? What about wanting whiter teeth? Baking soda will help you with all of this. It’s cheap. It’s not hard to come by. And chances are, you have some in your kitchen as you read this.

Baking soda for your skin:

  • Emma Stone recently put the spotlight back on baking soda when she revealed to French Elle that she uses it daily to exfoliate. Make a wet paste in the palm of your hand by mixing water into a teaspoon of baking soda. Gently use circular motions upwards as you exfoliate your face. Finish by rinsing with warm water and patting dry
  • For rough skin on your feet or elbows, make a more dry mix of baking soda with less water and scrub gently to soften and buff away dry skin
  • Feel a blemish coming? Apply a dab of paste to the affected area and let it dry either overnight or for at least 30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and patting dry
  • Soften your skin by adding a half cup to your bath tub and soaking in it – no need for soap
  • For that nagging, itchy mosquito bite, mix a little bit of water into some baking soda for a damp powdery consistency and apply to your bite.\
Baking soda for your hair

  • Joining the “no ‘poo” movement? Baking soda will quickly become a shower caddy mate regular
  • In need of a dry shampoo, but your not crazy about spraying a huge list of chemicals directly at your scalp? Sprinkle some baking soda around the greasy areas, and tousle with your fingers or blow dryer
  • Got some chlorine issues? Rinse out the green and add some serious shine by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda into a pint of water or put it directly into your shampoo
  • Don’t forget to clean your brushes and combs by soaking them in a bowl of warm water with 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda

Baking soda for your mouth and pearly whites
  • Make your own mouth wash by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda into 4 oz of water and gargling or swishing
  • Create a paste by mixing water into a tablespoon of baking soda. Gently scrub your teeth with your toothbrush avoiding scrubbing your gums. Do this one to two times weekly
