Diets are synonymous with a host of emotions. And, if you’re like us, we know these emotions all too well. Whether it’s memories of counting points to setting the next “start date” – it can feel utterly exhausting. Do diets work? Sure they do. For some people. In small doses. Many don’t last. Most don’t feel fulfilling. So today we’re getting real and talking to your questions. We’ve been saving inquiries, emails and DM’s that have you have wondered – how we’re different.
- How is Prescribe 20 different from Whole30? We get this question all the time. Whole30 is pretty much a household name at this point wouldn’t ya say? Prescribe 20 is meant to be 20 days that support shifts that encourage a whole food based lifestyle that works for you. It’s 20 days long, but intended to be the framework for the long haul. We celebrate food over here and want you to as well! We are focused on real life because, well, real life happens. You will have parties, trips, bad days and good. We work to educate on eating for fuel, understanding if certain foods don’t work for you (not everyone… just YOU) and wrap our virtual arms around you when things go off course… because that’s what friends do. Whole30 has rules that are black and white. No grains. No legumes. No…a lot of things. It’s cold turkey and there’s no gray when it comes to those rules. Among those rules is some tough love.

This is not hard. Don’t you dare tell us this is hard. Fighting cancer is hard. Birthing a baby is hard. Losing a parent is hard. Drinking your coffee black. Is. Not. Hard. You’ve done harder things than this, and you have no excuse not to complete the program as written.
Don’t even consider the possibility of a “slip.” Unless you physically tripped and your face landed in a pizza, there is no “slip.”
Okay, we get tough love – it works for some! But this kind just isn’t our style. Fear and guilt are among the lowest vibrations when it comes to our energy. Did you know that operating at a low vibe actually has the ability to slow our metabolism down, raise cortisol levels, and create sluggish digestion? Wild, isn’t it? So we keep our vibration high over here. But listen, this works and resonates for some, and frankly, it’s what makes the world go around. To each their own. Prescribe 20 simply speaks with a different voice.
- You eliminate foods, though, right? How does that work? Yes we do. There’s no denying that some foods cause inflammation… that certain foods trigger symptoms… that some foods just don’t work for certain people. So we start with the common culprits and work backwards. Refined sugar, gluten and dairy are the top offenders. They’re also foods we can lean on too much for comfort, so taking a step back from them often refreshes those relationships. Are we anti dairy and gluten? Nope, just responsible about it, the kinds that we eat and figuring out which bodies do better without them. Many people know they need to take these out – but they lack the support to do it. We have done-for-you recipes, educational resources and our team to be the sounding board for any and all questions. Beyond that we have optional protocols that take out grains and legumes. Feel like gas and bloating might be a result of eating rice or beans (or both;)? Or that skin flare ups happen after noshing on chickpeas? Then it might be time to explore some time eliminating them . Then, when the 20 days is up, we walk you out of it just as you came in – gently and with support and education.
- You talk about the community, what does that mean? Amazing question. We can’t talk about Prescribe Nutrition or our programs without this element. Our community is YOU. In Prescribe 20 it’s the people doing the program alongside you. It’s your fellow peers, parents, digestive health sufferers, migraine headache haters, sleep deprived, low energy friends… it’s those that want to make a change, upgrade their plates, feed their bodies what it was intended to have. It’s those people who will share their story, ask a question that you also wanted an answer to. It’s those individuals that will chime in when you post that you’re having a rough day, that you got an unexpected work trip that’s throwing your week off, that your entire family has the flu and you feel like the sky is falling. They’re also the people that are jumping up and down when you share that ev-ery-one in your family loved the new recipe that you made for dinner, that you snuck in a 20 minute workout when normally you wouldn’t have made time for yourself, that got the first amazing night’s sleep you’ve had in 2 years! That, our friends, is the community!
In all, we come back to notion that food is fuel. Food should be celebrated. That we should feel happy when it comes to what’s on our plate and operate on high vibrations. What works for some simply doesn’t work for others and we do our very best to help you unearth that.
