Four years later and we’re still at it with all things health: learning, reading, studying, tasting, testing, guinea pig’ing and, of course, eating our way to find the diets that work. You know, the diet that works for YOU, and only you. Today we are kicking off delivering a new approach to the way we recommend eating. We are dedicating the next few months to evolving the way we’ve done things at Prescribe Nutrition – we will be diving into topics that frankly we have avoided, and with good reasons. Nutrition is complicated and we want people to embrace food, not to be handcuffed to diets. But our views on food and health have evolved, and our recommendations have too. So get excited.

The mantra at Prescribe Nutrition has and always will be the same: there is no one diet that fits all. So when you put the overwhelming amount of dietary styles out there + the uniqueness of individuals, preaching a specific way to eat can get…dicey. At best. We set out to change that with our programs – all of which focused around one key objective: clear out the food clutter. If you don’t take a step back from what you’re eating and ask yourself:  “does this food serve me or hurt me? ” then it is impossible to make progress. This goes beyond Doritos folks. This includes foods that are healthy for some, foe for others. What does it involve? WORK. But hey, that’s where we come in.

Our programs have always included more than just recommendations on what foods to remove and what to add in. We’re rich in education on the “why” behind why we do what we do. It’s not reasonable (or kind) of us to tell you to cool it with the M&Ms if we don’t give you the hard facts behind why  – so we do just that. And we’re proud of that. It’s a key part of long term changes.

The way we see it, in order to find the best diet for YOU there are three key systems that need to be addressed, and we’re dedicating the next two months to digging into these three topics to create a system that helps you uncover the best diet for you. We’re on this journey with you, building it from all the research and experience we have.

Our foundation program, Prescribe 20, supports people in figuring out what foods help them and hinder them by guiding them through a gentle elimination diet. Our goal in Prescribe 20 is to teach you to listen to your body and uncover what foods work for you. What works for one person does not necessarily work for another. Frankly, we think Prescribe Nutrition has this intelligent approach to food pretty nailed. People see awesome results.

In Prescribe 20 we explore three dietary styles that have helped thousands of people figure out what foods work for them and what foods don’t.

  • PN Protocol: our tried and true gentle elimination
  • Grain-free Protocol: pushing it a step further
  • PN Clean Protocol: our gentle protocol that redefines ‘detoxes’

Guess what? We’re giving all the nitty gritty details about these protocols next week. Booya. You’re welcome. But we’re going to dig deeper in the next two months to help you uncover more and get better in touch with your body.

Historically we’ve always wanted you to focus on food and ONLY food –  avoiding strict parameters as much as possible, as that can verge on “dieting,”  which we’re trying to help people get away from. But…the reality is, just like one person may do well with dairy while other’s may not, my metabolism and the way my body utilizes food is going to be very different than the way yours does. We’re ready now to dive into different metabolic types and how YOU can figure out what your own body’s needs are. This is more than calories in and calories out – this is taking a holistic view of your body and seeing really what’s up for your best diet. Do you need to eat less? Eat more? Work out more? Maybe. It’s all possible. We’ll help you get real with yourself on that.

We’ll focus on specific aspects of how the body processes food and what that means for how you should eat. In the coming weeks expect the following topics:

  • Metabolic profiles – we’ll even use our team as an example
  • Eating for blood type
  • Doshas
  • Intermittent fasting / snacking / meals per day
  • Calorie counting / Macros / serving size
  • Anything else you want to hear about! Write your thoughts in the comments below.

Guys, we’re gonna dig deep. Can you handle it? Look let’s be real. The sad truth is too many people out there have complicated relationships with food. Food is emotional. It’s changes our brain chemistry. We have addictions to food and even to the way it can change our mood. So let’s talk about it – because until you get real with what your mental relationship with food is, it’s going to be really hard to change your lifestyle for the long haul.

  • Brain health: food literally changes your brain chemistry. There’s a reason why sweets and and doughy white goodness puts us in a good mood…but it comes crashing down. We’re going to talk about the science behind that.
  •  Are you creating realistic expectations for your body? If so, are you doing the work? Do you need to work harder? Do you want to live a life that requires you to work that hard, indefinitely? That requires you skip certain foods or celebrations forever? Maybe! Maybe not.
  • Maybe you do need to check yourself – if you have tried it all and maybe even lost weight in the past, but you still couldn’t recognize the results in real time, then maybe your work needs to be more in the arena of self love.
  • Emotional connection to food: what’s your story with food? Has it been tumultuous? Easy ride? This will affect the way you set your food parameters, and maybe you need to recognize that to not trigger old habits. Let’s tap into a peaceful state of mind with food, and try to stay there.
  • Healthy eating and lifestyle for 99% of people is not back and white. There are ups and downs and cycles. There’s a lot of grey area. Can you get comfortable being in the grey?
  •  Anything else you want – add it to the comments below!
Alright 2017, we’re coming at ya.
